Jackie Oyuyo Githinji, Umsizi LLP’s Managing Partner, has been appointed to serve as Chairperson of the Nairobi Centre of International Arbitration (NCIA) Board for a term of four years effective this month.
Established in 2013 by an Act of Parliament, the objectives of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration are to facilitate the establishment of an independent non-profit centre with a broad mandate necessary to administer domestic and international arbitration as well as other forms of alternative dispute resolution under the NCIA rules. In her new role as the Centre’s second Chairperson since its inception, Jackie will build on the foundation established by the inaugural Board and oversee the recruitment of the registrar of the arbitral court and 15 independent judges of the arbitral court.
Kenya’s third female Chartered Arbitrator, Jacke is a firm believer in ADR’s ability to provide disputing parties with the means to preserve relationships beyond their disagreements. Her experience in arbitration and mediation includes a broad range of disputes in matters such as real estate, shareholder disputes, employment and intellectual property matters.
